Pebble Hill Plantation

Let’s start our tour in the southern part of the Plantation Trace Region. You could stay at Thomasville’s Coalson Plantation Bed and Breakfast. Perhaps you can visit during the Thomasville Rose Festival which attracts rose-lovers from far away. Nearby is the Pebble Hill Plantation, with a gracious, stately home that has been depicted on A&E’s “American Castles”. Take a leisurely stroll around the grounds and see why words are not quite adequate to describe this southern treasure, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Remember: Be sure to use the “Flag This” option of the Plantation Trace Tourist Guide to add to your “Travel Ideas” list.

Swamp Gravy

In nearby Colquitt get a taste of the region’s culture by taking in a Swamp Gravy play. Each performance is an original, crowd-pleasing blend of comedy, drama, and music featuring a cast of more than 100 volunteers who transform southern life into unforgettable theater.

In Valdosta you should take time to visit the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts with rotating exhibits from around the world. The main attraction for excitement is the Wild Adventures Theme Park in Valdosta, with rides, concerts, exotic animals and a water park.

In nearby Cecil, motorsports fans can take in the action at the South Georgia Motorsports Park, which includes a dragway and a half-mile oval track. The town of Colquitt hosts the folk life play, Swamp Gravy, which is a southern drama about local folklore.

Jefferson Davis House and Blue Gray Museum

In the northern area of the Plantation Trace Region, visit the city of Fitzgerald where you can tour The Blue and Grey Museum. Learn about how the city was created by folks from the north and south who came together after the war. For outdoor enthusiasts, you can fish, canoe or go tubing in the Ocmulgee River. East of the nearby city of Tifton, is the Paradise Public Fishing Area with 60 lakes and ponds in which to fish. The Georgia Agrirama is a 19th century living history museum. Remember you can find additional information in the Plantation Trace Tourist Guide by simply selecting “Plantation Trace” plus “Things to Do”.

Flint Riverquarium

Albany boasts of one of the largest kid’s play parks at The Parks at Chehaw. At this 100-acre park you can find one of two AZA-accredited zoos in Georgia with both native and exotic animals. Another interesting attraction is the Thronateeska Heritage Center, with exhibits specific to southwest Georgia. An unusual Albany attraction is The Flint Riverquarium. This 175,000-gallon, 22-foot deep blue hole spring aquarium features natural Flint River habitats and contains fish, reptiles and other critters found in the Flint River ecosystem.

Enjoy a stay at the George T. Bagby State Park. You can do a little fishing, swimming and boating on beautiful Lake Walter F. George.
