Getting to know Rabun County
A warm welcome to Rabun County! Our attractions are many and varied, and we love to share our special places and warm hospitality with visitors to our community.

We are blessed with an abundance of natural attractions: mountains, waterfalls, lakes, Georgia state parks, U. S. forest lands, Tallulah Gorge and the Chattoga - a National Wild and Scenic River. Along with these attractions are endless recreational opportunities: camping & backpacking, golf, hiking, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, biking, rafting, canoeing, and kayaking (just to name a few!).

White Water Rafting on the Chattooga River

Rabun County is home to two award-winning wineries and vineyards, and bountiful farms. Our Agri-business is growing. The Georgia Wine Highway runs through Rabun County; our wineries are both open to the public and offer special events throughout the year. Several of our farms are open to the public for tours, markets, and pick-your-own adventures. You’ll want to pay a visit to Hillside Orchard Farms, Osage Farms, Goats on The Roof, and the Simply Homegrown Market, and also venture out to the countryside. Spring, summer, fall, and winter, Rabun farms produce an abundance of fruits and vegetables, cheese, cornmeal, grits, herbs, flowers, honey, wine, jams, jellies, sauces, breads, and meats. Visit a farmer’s market, or pick your own - and don’t forget the fun fall pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and the annual tradition of choosing and cutting your own Christmas tree!

Tallulah River Gorge

You will discover an interesting variety of specialty shops, boutiques, art galleries, and antique collections in Rabun County. The exquisite works of many local and regional artists and crafters are proudly showcased throughout our community. If antiquing is your fancy, you will want to check out the weekly auctions at Golden Memories in Mountain City. Featuring a 39,000 square foot facility with two auction galleries, Golden Memories is one of the largest auctions in the country. Timpson Creek Gallery features handcrafted, one-of-a-kind pieces and unique furniture, jewelry, and artwork. The arts are alive in Rabun County, with exhibitions and events scheduled throughout the year and passionate organizations that foster the development of our artists, talented actors, and musicians.

Shopping and Dining in Clayton

Take some time to learn the heritage of this special place by visiting the Foxfire Museum and Heritage Center, Barker’s Creek Grist Mill, Historic Downtown Clayton, the Tallulah Falls Railroad Museum, and the Hambidge Center for the Arts.

Other attractions, such as The Lake Burton Fish Hatchery, Andy’s Trout Farm, and the Tiger Drive-In, provide opportunities for family fun. Kids of all ages love the petting zoo at the Dillard House, which also offers horseback riding opportunities. Of course, dining at the world famous Dillard House Restaurant is a must for everyone!

Five nationally recognized trails wind their way through Rabun: the Appalachian Trail, the Bartram Trail, The Southern Highroads Trail, the 441 Heritage Highway, and the Georgia Wine Highway. Getting here is easy - we are a convenient (and scenic) drive from Atlanta, Athens, Greenville, Asheville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville.
