Georgia Tourism

The state of Georgia offers tourists a tremendous variety of options for adventure, history, recreation and entertainment. The beaches and salt marshes, mountains, beautiful lakes, rolling hills, meandering rivers, waterfalls, and just plain beautiful land make Georgia a wonderful destination for outdoors adventures such as: hiking, biking, birding, fishing, camping, kayaking, swimming and boating. A large number of terrific, highly-rated state parks are scattered throughout state and provide excellent opportunities for camping and other outdoor adventures and are very economical travel options.

Perhaps your desire is to be pampered and experience first-class service. Georgia is home to many world-class resorts and hotels that provide upscale travel destinations. These resorts dot the landscape of Georgia – from the mountains to the Piedmont to the coast – so there is something that is sure to please.

Georgia also has a rich history to share with its visitors – from colonial to civil war to civil rights. History will come alive at the major Civil War battlefields, Atlanta’s Cyclorama and the Andersonville Prison. Simultaneously experience the majesty of the old south as you travel along Georgia’s Antebellum Trail and the hospitality that endures in the new south. Georgia is also home to the advancement of African American civil rights and to its leader, Martin Luther King, Jr.

Speaking of history, Savannah has the best-preserved colonial historic district in the country and has been ranked as the eighth best travel destination in the country. Nearby is the terrific Tybee Island beach. All along the coast there are historical destinations, such as Fort King George and Fort Pulaski. Further south are the pristine beaches at Brunswick and the Golden Isles. Here you can enjoy the natural beauty of Georgia’s salt marshes, fish, swim, check out the sea turtles, and go hiking and birding along fantastic trails and beaches.

The Atlanta metro area offers excitement, entertainment, world-class shopping and dining, museums, historical venues, and major attractions. A family has so many options to explore, including: a highly rated zoo, theme parks, water parks, the fantastic Georgia Aquarium, tours of CNN and the New World of Coca-Cola, Civil War museums and battlefields, the incomparable Stone Mountain Park, the incredible Woodruff Arts Center, and professional sports at some of the greatest venues in the country.

The biggest industry in Georgia is agriculture, and agritourism is starting to become another major tourist attraction for Georgia. Take a ride along the Peach Blossom Trail, visit the Agrirama in Tifton, or check out what’s up at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry. Take in one of the many festivals that take place throughout Georgia - in which many celebrate the local agriculture.

In the heart of Georgia lies the Lake Country, which has world-class resorts and great opportunities for fishing, swimming, and boating. The golf is pretty good, too, at least according to Golf Digest which rated the golf here as one of the top 50 golf destinations in the world.

Do you like beautiful old homes, charming bed and breakfasts, quaint shops, small town hospitality, and topnotch local restaurants? Or do you prefer the exotic and exciting? Or maybe adventure and the great outdoors beckon? Or perhaps you hope to have that special family vacation? Or are you a group of guys looking for a great golf trip? Or maybe you are a group of seniors interested in a sightseeing adventure? Georgia can satisfy all of these diverse tourism needs, and the people of Georgia will welcome you with open arms and a friendly smile. Truly Georgia has managed to revere and respect the past and maintain its charm and hospitality while becoming a vibrant state with tremendous economic and cultural growth.
