Georgia Scenic Railroad Tours

A tourist can see the natural beauty of Georgia and experience the culture in many different ways. There are two railroad trains for tourists that are operated specifically for tourism– one in south Georgia and the other in north Georgia.

When in southwest Georgia you can take a tour of the 68 miles between Cordele and Archery in air-conditioned, 1949 vintage rail cars aboard the SAM Shortline Excursion Train. The ride is scenic and you have the flexibility to choose to layover at a stop and resume the ride later. Stops are made at Georgia Veterans State Park at Lake Blackshear, Leslie, Americus, Plains and Archery. In these small towns you will find nice restaurants and shops as well historic sites, such as Jimmy Carter’s childhood home.

Perhaps you like to relax and see the grandeur of nature. Come take a ride along the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway with views of wildflowers and mountain laurel in the spring, rhododendron in the summer, breathtaking colorful foliage in the fall and a ride with Santa Claus himself at Christmas. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway is fun for kids and adults. What a great way for parents and grandparents to spend time with children! This 26-mile scenic ride takes about 3 ˝ hours and runs from the historic train depot in Blue Ridge winding north along the beautiful Toccoa River to McCaysville, where you will have an hour to get out and shop and have a bite to eat before the return trip.
