Fayette and Coweta Counties Area Article

Welcome to the Georgia Tourist Guide’s focus on Fayette and Coweta Counties, one of metro Atlanta’s fast-growing and thriving communities. Fayette is noted for being designated as one of the best places to live in America, and Coweta has been the home of several famous writers and musicians. The Fayette and Coweta Counties Tourist Guide can help you plan your visit so that your experience is complete and enjoyable.

Let’s start in Fayette County where you will find a nice blend modern suburban life as well as Southern charm. Peachtree City is only a 20-minute drive from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, but it has a small-town environment that helped it be ranked the eighth best community to live by Money Magazine in 2005. This city has about 90 miles of golf-cart and walking paths, and you will see many residents riding around in golf carts to go shopping or out to eat. You can catch a concert at “The Fred” (Frederick Brown, Jr. Amphitheater, enjoy golf at several championship courses, play tennis at a nationally acclaimed Tennis Center, or catch “The Great Georgia Airshow” each fall at Falcon Field Airport. Peachtree City also has five shopping villages located within various parts of the Peachtree City communities. Up the road you will find the county seat, Fayetteville, home of The Old Courthouse, built in 1825 and the oldest in Georgia. Around this courthouse is a beautiful town square with nice small town shops and restaurants. The Old Courthouse plays host to a number of festivals and events throughout the year. Also in Fayetteville you can catch a summer concert at the Villages Amphitheater. For shoppers, the Fayette Pavillion is one of Georgia’s largest outdoor shopping malls. Be sure to explore the “Shopping” option on the Fayette and Coweta Counties Tourist Guide to discover the many great shopping opportunities in the various towns within this region.

Just south is Coweta County, home of chaming places and famous faces. Check out the Lewis Grizzard Museum in Moreland which memoralizes the famous humorist, syndicated newspaper columnist and author. Eat at the famous Sprayberry’s Barbecue, where Presidents, Governors and famous people have eaten – and even worked! Lewis Grizzard declared it “merely the best barbecue joint on earth”. Country music star, Alan Jackson, who grew up nearby waited tables at Sprayberry's during high school and will still stop in when he is back home. The Little Mans – Erskine Caldwell Museum in Moreland provides memorabilia for another famous writer from this area. Be sure to use the “FLAG THIS” feature on your Fayette and Coweta Counties Tourist Guide to add items of interest to your “My Travel Ideas” folder, so that you will not have to remember them and can quickly retrieve them.

As you exit Newnan to the south be sure to take the Smokey Road Scenic Drive and take in the beautiful farm country and estates that make up this scenic area of Georgia.. Also take time to visit the Dunaway Gardens, a 25-acre floral rock garden in Roscoe that has been featured in Southern Living Magazine.
