Buckhead Area Article

This section of the Georgia Tourist Guide focuses on the Buckhead area just north up Peachtree Road from the Midtown area. This upscale part of Atlanta is primarily about great shopping, great eating and top-ranked hotels. Consider these quotes (taken from buckhead.net):

“Buckhead is the shopping mecca of the southeast, with more than 1,400 shopping units and in excess of $1 billion dollars a year in sales. Forty percent of Buckhead’s shoppers come from more than 100 miles away.” Atlanta Business Chronicle
“The Robb Report rated Buckhead one of the USA’s 10 “Top Affluent Communities” for “some of the most beautiful mansions, best shopping and finest restaurants in the southeastern United States.”

With that said, let’s see if the Buckhead Tourist Guide can further whet your appetite and help you plan your visit to this upscale Atlanta area.

Let’s start with the shopping. The two primary anchors are Lenox Square Mall and Phipps Plaza, both of which feature upscale shops. Lenox Square is anchored by Neiman Marcus, Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s and features nearly 250 specialty stores, such as Louis Vuitton, Bobby Jones, Salvatore Ferragamo and Polo Ralph Lauren. There are also fine restaurants within the mall like Brasserie Le Coze and Tomtom. Visit the AtlanTIX same-day, half-price ticket outlet (located at the mall’s Guest Services), and plan your evening's entertainment at local attractions, theater and concert venues. Southern Living Magazine “Readers’ Choice Awards named Phipps Plaza, across Peachtree Road from Lenox Square, a “Southern Best”. Phipps Plaza is indeed the Southeast's most prestigious shopping center and is the home to over 100 specialty shops, including: Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Juicy Couture and Giorgio Armani. At Phipps Plaza you'll also find four full service restaurants, a food court, and a 14-screen AMC theatre. There is also a complimentary shuttle service, The Shoppers’ Chauffeur, between Lenox and Phipps. Now that’s service!

The Buckhead area is has a number of upscale and eclectic shops that are a shopper’s delight! Along Peachtree Road, for example, you will find a number of top art galleries and antique dealers.

There are so many great restaurants in Buckhead! We cannot possibly mention them all in this brief article, but we will attempt to give you a flavor for what is in store when you dine at the many fine area restaurants. Only a handful of restaurants are awarded five stars by Mobile Travel. In 2004 there were a total of 14 in the entire country. Buckhead had two! The Dining Room in the prestigious, four-star Ritz-Carlton Hotel is considered one of the best restaurants in the world and is a perennial Mobile five-star restaurant. Atlanta Magazine says this about Bones: “Atlanta’s best steakhouse. Virtually in a class by itself.” The Buckhead Life Restaurant Group operates several highly acclaimed restaurants in Buckhead, including Bluepointe, 103 West, Pano’s and Paul’s, Atlanta Fish Market, and Veni Vidi Vici. Since there are so many dining options in Buckhead, be sure to use our “Flag This” feature in the Buckhead Tourist Guide to add items of interest to your “My Travel Ideas” folder. You will not have to remember them and can quickly retrieve them at a later time.

As for hotels, the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead, The Westin Buckhead, Crowne Plaza, JW Marriott Hotel Buckhead, and the InterContinental Buckhead have all been highly rated and acclaimed and are located in the heart of the Buckhead area.

There are so many bars in Buckhead to choose from that you have to explore the “Nightlife, Bars” option Buckhead Tourist Guide to check them all out. The Buckhead bar scene is known for providing one of the top nightlife spots in the country. There are Atlanta traditions like Dante’s Down the Hatch, voted best in Atlanta for live jazz.
