This section of the Georgia Tourist Guide focuses on the Atlanta Airport Area just south of downtown Atlanta. When you have the busiest airport in the world, you must have a large selection of high caliber accommodations, restaurants and other attractions in the near vicinity to cater to the volume of people that travel to the area each year. Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport area has everything you will need close by; however, with all the transportation options you can easily travel into the city or to nearby towns south of the airport. If you are looking for a place to stay, the area has over 100 hotels, motels and other accommodations nearby with approximately 14,000 rooms available for travelers. There are top-rated hotels as well economical motels close by. There are a variety of good restaurants in the vicinity. If you are looking for fine dining, consider Pecan or fina Italian bistro in College Park. If you want to venture further out, The Historic Green Manor in Union City would be an excellent choice for good southern cuisine in a delightful setting. There are no shortages of sports bars and grills. The Southside Bar& Grill, located in the Marriott Atlanta Airport, or Michon’s Smoked Meats in Hapeville would be good choices. If you have a taste for Mexican or Chinese, try La Fiesta or Noodles in College Park.

If you are looking for things to do, you can always head into Atlanta; but that is not necessary. In the Airport area you will find quaint shops on the nearby main streets of College Park, East Point and Hapeville. In Forest Park, you can shop at the country’s largest outdoor produce market, the Atlanta Farmer’s Market. In Morrow you will find the largest mall on the southside of Atlanta (Southlake Mall). The Concert Series at Spivey Hall in Morrow is nationally acclaimed, so try to check out a jazz or classical music performance in this beautiful concert hall. In Jonesboro The Beach at Clayton County International Park has a water trampoline, skim board area, adventure kiddie pool, 5 water slides, and a 6-acre swimming lake with geyser fountain to entertain the family. Atlanta was the scene for Margaret Mitchell’s famous book Gone with the Wind. In Jonesboro, just south of Atlanta, you can have a “Gone with the Wind Experience” and tour the Road to Tara Museum. In downtown Atlanta you can tour the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum. In Hapeville, you can visit the original Chik-fil-a Dwarf House. Just north of the airport, you can have some family fun at Metro Lanes & Games, which features bowling, an arcade and a sports bar. Up for a round of golf, try Wolf Creek or Lake Spivey Golf Clubs.

The airport area offers the traveler plenty of transportation services. The MARTA rail service runs directly from inside the airport to downtown, midtown, Buckhead and other Atlanta locations. Many of the hotel shuttles also will pick up and drop off at the MARTA stations. In addition, all of the major car rental companies are nearby and there are limousine services available as well.
