Located in the former U.S. Coast Guard Station and opened in the spring of 2006, the Maritime Center offers an exciting look at coastal Georgia natural assets, while highlighting some of the area’s maritime and military history. Visitors are guided through the museum by “Ollie”, a fictional character based on journal entries and historical accounts by various Coast Guard personnel stationed at St. Simons Island during World War II. Seven galleries feature a variety of hands-on exhibits and activities. Open Monday-Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm; Sunday 1:30 pm to 5:00pm. Admission call 912-638-4666.
