HISTORY
Sconyers Bar-B-Que was founded in 1956. When Claude and Adeline Sconyers could no longer make a living at farming they decided to give their hobby a try. With their children grown and no one to help them on the farm, they opened Sconyers Bar-B-Que on Peach Orchard Road. The small restaurant became popular with the locals. Many in Augusta would come and enjoy pork bar-b-que and hash cooked to perfection. Claude and Adeline's policy was a simple one: quality food, properly prepared, served in generous portions at a fair price. In spite of the success Claude and Adeline achieved, they could never have imagined just how successful the hobby would become. Larry Sconyers, Claude and Adeline's youngest son, took over the business after the death of his father. Under the direction of Larry Sconyers the hobby grew into a major business in the Augusta area. Larry moved the restaurant to a new location and increased the seating capacity.
Along with the blessings of a new building, increased seating capacity and patronage of customers came a new concept, catering. The idea of taking the food to the customer enabled Larry to try a bold new adventure in food service. Over the years Sconyers' Bar-B-Que has been served on the White House lawn for President Jimmy Carter and members of Congress, in Atlanta at the Georgia Capital as \well as at many local and state events. Sconyers' catering is available for any type of event, to any size group and in the location of your choice.
Today, we operate on the very same principle: quality food, properly prepared, served in generous portions at a fair price. On our menu you'll still find pork bar-b-que and hash, but we now offer T-Loin, beef, chicken and Turkey with all the traditional fixings. Thankfully we've been blessed, and through hard work we've grown into one of the premiere bar-b-que establishments in the nation. We've even been featured in People's Magazine as one of the top ten Bar-B-Que restaurants in the United States. Our success is the result of God's Blessings and the wonderful patronage of our customers, and we are extremely grateful!
