Guided Kayak Tours
of George L Smith Pond and Ohoopee River
Mill Pond Kayak, LLC is offering guided tours of the 412-acre cypress-lined Watson Mill Pond at George L. Smith State Park near Twin City, GA. This is a great outing for school groups, scout troops, church groups, company picnics, reunions, or family and friends.
We’ll equip you with the kayaks, paddles, vests, and some basic instruction. Then we’ll take you out for approximately 2-1/2 hours to explore some of the ten miles of blackwater trails on the mill pond.
We have 10 single-person kayaks and 5 tandem kayaks available for your party. Liability waiver forms must be completed prior to your tour.
You can start your journey near the check-in station and explore the lower end of the pond near the dam and historic covered bridge, then head up past the campgrounds and picnic area. Or you can increase your chances of viewing wildlife by starting at the fishing dock near the pioneer campground and paddling upstream toward the Hwy. 80 bridge.
Tours will begin at the park in September 2009 and run through November 30. Call (478) 299-6616 or email info@millpondkayak.com to reserve your date.
Starting in 2010, tours will run Mar. 1 through Nov. 30. Also in 2010, we will begin organizing day trips on the nearby Ogeechee and Ohoopee Rivers when water conditions are favorable.
Things you might need to bring: Water, snacks, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, waterproof camera, insect repellent, rain poncho, and extra clothes.
